Two Lines in Space

In plane geometry we learned that there are only two relationships between two lines in the two dimensional world: they are either parallel or they are intersecting. In the three-dimensional world, there is one more possible relationship: non-coplanar; that is, they do not lie on the same plane, such as the two edges of the steel nut shown in the VR media.

A railroad is an example of two parallel lines. Intersecting city streets represent intersecting lines. One freeway crossing over the other demonstrates two non-coplanar lines.
